So, it's official. The Sox bid $51.1 million for the rights to negotiate a Major League contract with Japanese pitcher, Daisuke Matsuzaka. Let's hope that Theo can get him signed.

Will Matsuzaka be a wise investment for the Red Sox? It comes down to this: If, as projected, Matsuzaka is a Cy Young caliber pitcher at the Major League level, the Sox have made a shrewd move. If Matsuzaka is injured early in his career or he is a bust then the $51.1 million bid and the impending "monster" contract will go down as the most reckless expenditure in Major League history. Time will tell.

Will the Japanese take sides on the Yankees - Red Sox rivalry? Matsuzaka vs Hideki Matsui will be interesting.
