It was blood

I bet Orioles play by play announcer, Gary Thorne, didn't know that he'd unleash the wrath of Red Sox Nation with his comment about Curt Schilling during Wednesday's Orioles - Red Sox broadcast:
"The great story we were talking about the other night was that famous red stocking that he wore when they finally won -- the blood on his stocking. Nah. It was painted. Doug Mirabelli confessed up to it after. It was all for PR."
Mirabelli's response:
"What? Are you kidding me? He's [expletive] lying. A straight lie. I never said that. I know it was blood. Everybody knows it was blood."
Thorne is from Bangor, Maine so I'm not sure how or when it happened, but he must be a closet Yankees fan. There is no other explanation for his comments.

The Joy of Sox has the whole story and Jere has the video. Gordon Edes even has testimony from Schilling's orthopedist.

I've always thought Thorne was a good play by play guy, esp for hockey games but that was a stupid thing he said the other night. Dumbass...
