Hang in there Jack

I'm not sure about you, but I wasn't too impressed with the Super Bowl commercials this year. But...I had to laugh when I heard about the campaign that Jack in the Box launched with their $3 million dollar spot. Jack, the globe-headed CEO was hit by a bus on his lunch break in LA:

I should mention that one of the details I miss about life on the West Coast is the Jack in the Box commercials. (We don't have Jack in New Hampshire.) I've never set foot in the restaurant, but I grew fond of Jack over the years. Somehow I actually care that he got hit by a bus. The man has a family.

Jack's status is being updated at hangintherejack.com (the additional video footage is fantastic) and his administrative assistant is posting updates on Twitter and Facebook. Very funny and kudos to Jack in the Box for making the most out of their pricey Super Bowl ad.

I have to admit that I did not watch the SB so this was my first exposure to the JitB ad campaign. My initial reaction was that is was a desperate attempt by a company that is about to fold. And so fitting to be debuted during the Super Bowl as gambits like this are known as "Hail Mary Passes".

Well, I have no idea whether the company is in deep financial dodo or that this is just a hairbrained scheme of their ad agency. I do agree with another who wrote that parodying what in real life is such a horrific tragedy is "a little out of line" Yea, that is an understatement.

I also admit to eating at fast food outlets several times a week and JitB has been one of my two top choices. The only likely impact this ad campaign will have had on my patronage is to end it... at least for the time being.

Im soo sad that Jack got hit with a bus... Remeber the last time they killed off Jack? Then he came back as the Jack we know and love today? (well, a Jack that doesnt have his head smooshed.) But still, i wash he would come back normal (Did you hear that they are making Jack in the Box reasturaunts? I mean like fancy-pancy reasturaunts) :'''(
