Wow.

Let it be known that I am in no way gloating --- but I took a quick peak at the MLB standings before I head off to bed and I noted that there are only four teams in baseball with less wins than the New York Yankees: The Kansas City Royals, the Texas Rangers, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Cincinnati Reds. Wow. This salary vs. performance visualization is fun to look at too.

So...whose head will roll this week? Cashman? Torre? The new trainer?

Catch us if you can...

After "The Comeback" on Sunday afternoon, I flipped over to watch the Yankees - Mariners game. I wondered if the Yanks had taken notice of the Red Sox ninth inning comeback on the out of town scoreboard. They did:
"The Yankees were playing the Seattle Mariners, but there was no escaping the shadow cast by the Red Sox from across the country. When Boston scored six runs in the ninth inning to win their game, some of the Yankees noticed on the scoreboard at Safeco Field."

“I looked up and I couldn’t really believe it,” Johnny Damon said. “I thought it was a mistake...if the Red Sox keep playing the way they are, nobody’s going to catch them."

PS. Don't forget to watch ESPN's broadcast of Roger Clemens' Class A start on Friday. Cough. Gag.

Clemens Projection Contest

Dan suggested that we have a contest projecting Clemens' final numbers for the 2007 season. (What a novel idea!)

Here's the deal: Drop your projections in the comments section for Clemens' Wins, Losses and ERA. The commenter whose projections most closely match Clemens' numbers at the end of the 2007 regular season will win an Insoxicated T-Shirt (just in time for the playoffs).

Wins:
Losses:
ERA:

BTW: Listen to this extremely disturbing dramatic announcement of Clemens' return by Yankees radio announcer, Suzyn Waldman. You'd think that the Berlin Wall had just come down. Seriously.

Clemens is a Yankee. This should be fun.

Roger

From the NY Daily News:
"Roger Clemens returned to the New York Yankees, making a dramatic announcement to fans from the owner's box during Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners."

"At the end of the seventh-inning stretch, Yankees public address announcer Bob Sheppard told fans to turn their attention to the box, where Clemens was standing with a microphone. As the video scoreboard in right-center televised Clemens, the seven-time Cy Young Award winner made the announcement himself."

Wow. That was quick. I was counting on another month of Clemens-related speculation. Will he sign with Houston? Boston? New York? Tampa Bay? Clemens plans to take "several weeks" to get into pitching shape. The Yankees play the Red Sox at Fenway on June 1. Perhaps we'll see the Rocket?
