When you are addicted to drugs, hobbies aren’t exactly top priority. Drugs take the predecessor to everything. Now that you are clean and sober, however, finding things to do to fill your time is important. What type of things can you do to fill your time? The sky’s the limit, really, and it depends on the type of things that you enjoy. What is important is that you stay away from the old group of friends and remember what path you are now on in life. It is a good idea to sit down and make a list of things that interest you and then find hobbies that tailor to those interests.
Some people enjoy living it up in nature once they are free of the reigns of an addiction. Hikes, bike rides, picnics in the park, and tons of other nature-related activities keep your mind fit and fresh. Soak up the sun and that delish vitamin D!
If cooking has always been your passion, why not take up a cooking class? You’ll learn tons of new skills and can really throw down in the kitchen. If you love sports, why not participate? Boxing, football, basketball and tons of other options are fun for all ages and backgrounds. An art lover? Visit a museum or start a scrapbook showcasing pieces you love.
Stay away from activities that may cause you to think about or desire drugs and/or alcohol. Remain strong if anyone offers them to you and remove yourself from the citation. Keep in mind that you are in control of every moment and every situation in your life from this point forward and have the power to accomplish anything you set your mind to.
